Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, desires retribution.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could help the party access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Planners tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
